Hi there! Welcome to Lauren Roe Photography. I’m Lauren and I am the face behind the camera. If you’re visiting this page it means you would like to know who you could potentially be trusting to capture the important moments for you. I hope I can reassure you and bring a little humour to your search for the perfect shooter!

I'm 26 years old and I have 4 years field experience in portrait & wedding photography. In 2015, I graduated with a second upper class BA (hons) in media production from the University of Lincoln. During my final year I specialised in photography, and I was pregnant with my son, whom is now 4 years old, cheeky, handsome and funny but absolutely refuses to model for me! How can a photographer not have the perfect shots of her own child!? I’ll let him off though, as he loves to watch me edit (he probably thinks it's something on YouTube)!

My passion for photography stems from my personal experiences. As a child I was placed into care. (no sad story here! keep reading....)  and now, as an adult I’ve found that I don't have any childhood photographs, family photographs, or even baby photographs of myself. We don’t realise just how well photographs tell stories, provide us with history and can answer our questions. I only have 3 photographs of my dad who passed away 10 years ago, and I seek so much comfort from those. My son knows about his granddad and I often find him looking at those few pictures of him. Photographs can be so emotive, so comforting and solidify our existence on this earth long after we have passed.

I believe it is so important to capture our lives. We are our own story tellers, we have the gift of our creativity and the ability to share our visual stories so easily. Photography is an art that has been treasured for many years, with it’s flexibility vastly growing. No longer do we have to use a big flash gun and have limited film. We have the freedom to shoot from our phones and have them ready instantly, and we can back them up to drives and clouds without realising. We can easily 'edit' them using apps and Instagram.

I think the photography industry can feel a little threatened by this, as anyone could call themselves a 'photographer'. I believe there is a difference between taking photographs and practising photography. Anyone can take photographs, with new phones having amazing mega pixels. However, practising photography is learning how to produce art from scratch. I myself do feel the digital format is easier than shooting and developing film, however, it's so easy to shoot digital that you can almost make it harder for yourself. I know in the past I have been shooting continuously just because I could! I thought the larger number of photographs I had on my memory card, the harder I had worked. Which was not true!

Now, I take less and receive more. I slow down, change my settings, my lenses and my vision. I receive better photos that aren't 6 shots of the exact same thing. I do tend to have 2 photographers and shoot continuously when I hear the words "you may now kiss the bride" as that is the 'money shot' and you cannot re create that exact moment! Alarm bells ring, hands get clammy and fingers go like jelly if you aren't prepared for that shot!

I’m always learning and I set personal goals for myself to improve. I’ve become fluent in lightroom and creating my own presets, and I always shoot in RAW or other large format to get the best quality for post processing. During lock down I’ve been learning Photoshop in order to create my own graphics/logo’s and watermarks. This year I would like to be confident in using green screen to be able to produce composites. In 5 years I want to be exploring videography and travel abroad for destination weddings, my list is always growing and changing. There’s millions of avenues we can venture within photography and it takes a lot of time, patience (and money) to master. It’s an ever growing ever changing art, with no right or wrong answers.

I find it hard to just perfect and focus on one category of photography. This is why I am not just a portrait/ newborn/ wedding/ corporate photographer. I strive to practice all of these things and more. I like change, and I find if I do one thing constantly for too long I lose my mojo. My shoots start to look too similar and I lose interest in my camera, I start to feel like I’m slacking in my skill. I find that focusing on more than one style keeps me passionate, which is then reflected in my work.

My style won’t be the same as everyone else’s, We are all different and unique and our photography reflects that. Of course a good photographer will work with you within their forte to produce art that you love and that is to your taste. We love any opportunity to grow!

Take a look through my work and don't hesitate to contact me.

Many thanks, Lauren.
